The Next Chapter - Richmond Mall Reimagined

Richmond Mall Reimagined is a multi-stage renewal of the whole shopping centre, designed to reposition the mall into an exciting, modern retail and lifestyle experience to benefit the whole region.

Nelson-based property investment and management company Tinline Property has owned the Richmond Mall for over 30 years, continuously investing in the mall as customer needs have changed over time.

Richmond Mall Reimagined is a testament to the family-owned company’s ongoing commitment to the region, delivering what customers want from a contemporary mall - a wider range of stores, national brands not currently in the region and more vibrant hospitality experiences.

Previous significant milestones at the mall include the establishment of ‘anchor’ stores PAK’nSAVE (opened 1996), and Farmers (opened 2002), as well as its expansion of the mall’s retail and carpark footprint in the 2000s.

The project is being delivered in two stages. Stage 1 at the south-east side of the mall where Fresh Choice had been started in March 2025 and has involved the old facade wall coming down, a new external wall being built and a new roof put in place, while, behind the scenes are critical upgrades to infrastructure and essential services. New seating areas with additional welcoming greenery will also debut as part of the suite of improvements to the mall’s retail experience. Stage 1 will be completed in September 2025.

After Stage 1, the next larger stage of the project at the PAK’nSAVE side of the mall will enhance the retail offer with more fashion and lifestyle brands and provide a new food court and exciting evening dining options. Stage 2 will be completed by the end of 2026.

Stage 1 at the south-east side of the mall is currently underway and when open in September 2025 customers will enjoy a variety of existing and new retail shops, and new seating areas with additional welcoming greenery.

Stage 1 at the south-east side of the mall started in March 2025 and has involved the old blue facade wall coming down, a new external wall being built and a new roof put in place, while, behind the scenes are critical upgrades to infrastructure and essential services. New seating areas with additional welcoming greenery will also debut as part of the suite of improvements to the mall’s retail experience.

The majority of Stage 1 work takes place behind-the-scenes, with builders accessing the construction space via the loading dock. There may be occasional periods of extra noise – but the mall is working hard to keep this to a minimum for everyone.

The mall and stores remain open during Stage 1, with completed scheduled for September 2025.

Stage 2 of Richmond Mall Reimagined will enhance the mall’s retail offer with more fabulous fashion and lifestyle brands and a new food court and exciting evening dining options. We look forward to announcing the details later in 2025.

There are nine great eateries at the Richmond Mall offering a variety of cuisine, with more opening as part of Stage 2 at the end of 2026.
